At San Ysidro Polo we have built a reputation for having sound, sane, sensible, and talented polo ponies selling to both amateurs and professional players alike. We believe this has been possible through the careful breeding of proven mares to proven stallions, and the program that our trainer Tiamo has created and steered at San Ysidro Polo. Tiamo works with our ponies from the day they are born all the way till they play polo. This instills a trusting relationship between the horse and trainer. We believe this makes for more confident horses on the polo field.

We are also strong believers in teaching our young horses how to be a work horse at an early stage. Riding pastures, opening and closing gates, working cattle in the pens are just a handful of the jobs they will do in their years leading up to polo. All of these things together make for a brave, confident, and rideable horse that will translate all of this education to the polo field, making the transition from ranch horse to polo horse seamless. Building a strong foundation in our horses is Tiamo’s forte; we stand by the importance of this and have seen the results.

San Ysidro Polo has done extensive work on our feed program, working closely with veterinarians and equine nutritionists to insure that our horses at every stage of life are getting what they need to grow properly and fully develop. The importance of diet in these athletes is second to none. There is evidence that proper nutrition will help with the prevention of injuries, alongside a proper fitness regime. The two go hand in hand and the results are strong, healthy, long lasting polo ponies.

Here at San Ysidro we pride ourselves in our ability to match the right horse to each player.  If you are interested in discussing your needs and our available horses, please reach out to Tiamo. We are confident your first San Ysidro Polo pony will not be your last!
